It Hasn't Always Been This Way

There was a path I longed to walk
That falsely promised joy and peace
But thoughts of Jesus seemed to block
The entrance to that path of ease.

I knew that in the years before
I did not hesitate to go
For promised pleasure swayed me more
Than Jesus and the love He shows.

But now He's changed my heart so that
When paths forbidden open wide,
My new desires pull me back
And different thoughts go through my mind:

I cannot walk this path of sin
For Jesus would not want me there
And searching, now I find within
That nothing can to Him compare.

Now what He wants is what I want
And please believe me when I say,
It's all His mercy, grace, and strength.
It hasn’t always been this way.
